TOUR DESCRIPTION
Day 1 - Wat Umong and Doi Suthep Temple Twilight Tour
This evening tour will start with pick up from your Chiang Mai hotel then we will proceed towards Doi Pui mountain where we will make our first stop at Wat Umong. Wat Umong is a 700-year-old temple nestled in the forest at the foot of Doi Pui mountain. The temple here is famous for its underground tunnels and large Chedi, there is also a field containing broken Buddha statues, the twilight hours is definitely the best time to visit this atmospheric temple. Following Wat Umong the tour will proceed to Chiang Mai's most famous temple and without a doubt, the evening time is definitely one of the best times to visit as the tourist crowds which do visit this temple will have mostly departed for the day. You will enjoy the very unique views of Chiang Mai at Night and will see the city lit up below you!
Day 2 - Doi Inthanon National Park
You will be picked up from your Chiang Mai hotel and we will head towards Doi Inthanon National Park and Thailand's highest peak. Night time temperatures on the peak ban be as low as -8 degrees centigrade. In the cold/dry season night time frosts are common. in fact on top of the mountain the climate is closer to that of Canada than that of lowland Thailand. Day time temperatures can be surprisingly cold so not forget a long sleeve jumper. On the way up we willl visit Wachiritharn and Siritharn Waterfalls and the agricultural work at the Royal Project Research Station, the king and queen chedis, the best views across the park are found here, then on to the peak of Doi Inthanon the highest mountain in Thailand. Near the top we will take the Angkha nature walk where you can walk amongst the unique flora and forest at this altitude. There are both Karen and Hmong villages in the bounds of Doi Inthanon and we will see a Karen village on the way dow the mountain before making our way back to Chiang Mai.
Evening - Kantoke Dinner & Hill Tribe Show
Experience a night of traditional Northern Thai food and traditional Thai dance at Chiang Mai's premiere Kantoke venue. Get to eat real Northern Thai food at kantoke tables while being entertained by traditional hill tribe dancers. Sample such northern delights as Northern Thai pork curry, Thai fried chicken, fried cabbage, Thai sticky rice and fried bananas to name but a few. This is an excellent way to sample Northern Thai food while being entertained by traditional Thai dance.
Day 3 - Karen Long Neck, Chiang Rai and The Golden Triangle
We will visit Chiang Rai Province and The Golden Triangle, meeting point of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. After pick up at your Chiang Mai hotel, your first stop will be Maekhajan hot springs a good spot to take a morning cup of coffee before heading up towards the stunning Wat Rong Khun often named 'The White Temple' due do its dazzling white colour inlaid with mirrored glass. A short drive from Chiang Saen will bring us to the Golden Triangle where you will have the option of a boat trip across the Mekong River to the Laos island of Don Sao. The tour will proceed to Mae Sai the Thai border town with Myanmar where we can spend some time at the bustling border market. You will also get a glimpse of Myanmar itself with it only being situated a mere ten meters away across the river. On the return leg to Chiang Mai we will stop to see The Karen Long Neck hill tribe as well as Akha and Yao tribal groups.
Day 4 - Thai Cooking School
Today you will learn Thai cooking at the best cooking school in Chiang Mai. Have you ever eaten Thai food and thought you would love to be able to create it back in your home country. Well now it is so easy. You will be collected frpm you hotel and we will take a morning fresh food market tour where you will learn about some of the local produce and ingredients used in Thai cooking. Our next stop will be the cooking school kitchen where you will learn how to cook healthy and delicious Thai food to surprise your friends and your family at home.
Day 5 - One Day Mini Trek & Elephant Bathing Mae Wang
On the final day of this 4-day tour programme, you will head to the Me Wang area Southwest of Chiang Mai where you will visit a Karen hill tribe (not long Neck), a waterfall and also trek through the forest in the Mae Wang area. You will also get to spend some time feeding and bathing the elephants! Bring your swimwear as you are also likely to get wet while bamboo rafting on the Mae Wang River. This is an ideal trek for those of a less energetic nature as the walking involved is shorter and easier going than on the other single day treks featured and there is no white water rafting only the more relaxed bamboo variety
m.
Note: You will be required to show your original passport if you want to take the boat ride on the Mekong to the Laos side. Please bring this with you if you want to take this option.
