Budget transport package including one nights accommodation to get your from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang the hassle free way. This option you will take the slow transport boat down the Mekong. You will spend 2 days on the boat with an overnight stop in Chiang Kong and Pakbeng on the Mekong River.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1 - Chiang Mai to Chiang Kong
You will be picked up at 10:00am from your Chiang Mai Accommodation for the 5 hour drive to Chiang Kong. On route to Chiang Kong the bus will take a break at Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) Feel free to take a look around! On arrival in Chiang Kong you will be transferred to your Chiang Kong accommodation. For the remainder of the day you will be free to explore this Mekong Riverside town. A simple evening meal will be provided.

Day 2 - Chiang Kong to Pakbeng
A simple breakfast will be provided before transferring you to the Thai Immigration post on the Mekong. Once you have completed Thai immigration formalities and have been stamped out of Thailand we will cross the Mekong by the new Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge to the Laos Immigration Post where you can obtain your Laos visa
A simple packed lunch will be provide for your boat trip. At around 10am the slow boat will depart for the first day of your two day boat ride down the Mekong to the town of Luang Prabang. The boat will dock Pakbeng at around 17:00 where you will spend the night.

Pakbeng - Accommodation not included

Day 3 - Pakbeng to Luang Prabang
The boat will depart Pakbeng at 09:00am for the final day transport on the Mekong River to Luang Prabang. The boat should finally dock in Luang Prabang at around 17:00

This programme is not a tour or tour package, it is a transport package, staff are provided to ensure you get to the correct accommodation boats and buses etc but no tour guide is provided. You are required to arrange your own visa (this is available to most nationalities on arrival at the Huay Xai border post and there is no need to make advance arrangements). No visa fees are included or visa help is provided. An Independent visa service may be offered by your accommodation in Chiang Kong - This service is not provided by Travel Hub or the package operator and are therefore not responsible for the quality of any services offered. This is a budget 'no frills' package and the accommodation provided is basic, but definitely a very rewarding trip to make. The boat pier in Luang Prabang is situated about 7km south of the town. You will need to take a tuk tuk or local taxi to get you into town at your own expense (we suggest getting together with some of your fellow travellers from the boat to make this trip more economical). You have to find your own accommodation in Pakbeng. Outside of high season this is an easy task as the main street leading from the boat pier is lined with many guest houses. On day 2 you may want to bring some lunch with you rather than buying on the boat. The choice on the boat is limited to some intant noodles and cold snacks.
